The Spark is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to explore the richness and diversity of art and culture and an easy way for schools to kick start their engagement with two new Arts Award qualifications for beginners.
Discover and Explore programmes are fun, flexible and self-assessed by your school's Arts Award Adviser, or by one of The Spark's Advisers. The Festival offers a fantastic opportunity for some children to take the first steps with Discover, by seeing a Spark show in their school and writing about it.
In 2016, at St Barnabas and St Matthews Libraries, The Spark put over 30 children through both Discover and Explore Arts Awards. This work ranged from working with a local Youth Theatre group over several weeks, to including Discover in the weekly summer holiday residencies at both libraries. Two of the young people have also gone on to do their Bronze award.
A further 55 children achieved their Discover Arts Award through the Young People's Music Residency with percussionist Adriano Adewale in the summer.
