Imaginative Neighbourhoods - Beaumont Leys
Our writer in residence in Beaumont Leys is Jayne Williams.
"I am excited to be working with children, young people, families and adults right across the Beaumont Leys area to create and capture stories with little people and record tales with taller ones, to gather us all together. Through stories we will explore identity and citizenship to celebrate community cohesion by communicating our shared experiences. Some will be collated in print, others as monologues and pop up pieces of live performance throughout 2016"

Throughout 2016 Jayne was out and about scooping up stories that offered a snapshot into the lives of those living in Beaumont Leys. They were recorded for a Massive Memoir, as part of the Everybody's Reading Festival in October. Artist Bob Moulder designed 8 exciting new book covers that are now the audio books, enabling you to listen to all of the stories by plugging in some headphones. You can also listen to some of the stories here.
My Beaumont Leys
My Beaumont Leys writing project:
Do you have a story to share about Beaumont Leys? This is your opportunity to be as imaginative as you like and tell us all about where you live, no matter of your age or writing style. Maybe you'll create a comic, write a poem or some prose. Will you consider Beaumont Leys as a person with thoughts and feelings and write a diary entry? It could be your next meal, if so what would be on your dinner plate? How about writing travel tips in the style of a trip advisor blog or as a shopping list?
There was a fantastic response of entries and they have now been added to a final book which can be found in the library. Happy reading!
Beaumont Leys Big Celebration
On Saturday 18 March at Beaumont Leys Library, residents of Beaumont Leys - past and present came together in a Big Celebration event to celebrate everything that's great about the community.
There was a packed performance programme of Spoken Word, Dance and Theatre performances, Poetry, Visual Art Exhibitions, stalls from the local community and free food.
Well done to everybody who got involved and performed and thank you to those of you who came to support family, friends and neighbours, it was a fantastic way for the community to enjoy something together.
You can see all the photos from the event on Jayne's facebook page
