Imaginative Neighbourhoods is an artist in residence scheme that will build on the success of the Imaginative Spaces project to support storytelling as a medium to promote reading for pleasure and language development.
The scheme has been successful in gaining funding to continue for a second year. In May, Owen Craven-Griffiths took over from Jayne Williams as artist in residence at Beaumont Leys and Dave 'Stickman' Higgins has taken over from Manya Benenson and will work with Early Years in Beaumont Leys and Belgrave Neighbourhoods.
The artists will work with neighbourhood staff, schools, family and community groups to re-imagine these spaces as cultural hubs at the heart of the community. This will enable local children and families to take part in the many creative activities that can be realised alongside reading.
The artists are developing a year-round programme of events and community engagement programmes that support and develop the facilities.
There are opportunities to volunteer with our artists this summer, if you like the arts and love being creative you can find out more by clicking on the link below.
