Powerful Words - Poetry Project
Our aim is to boost emotional wellbeing, improve literacy skills, inspire and build confidence and self-esteem of the participating children aged 8 -9 living in Leicester City.
This February, acclaimed poet and storyteller John Berkavitch began an eleven week residency in four Leicester schools working with children aged 8 - 9 to deliver poetry project Powerful Words.
During the residency, year four classes from each of the participating schools were inspired to write their own material. This work was combined and presented in an impressive anthology which was given to each child.
The young poet laureates also contributed to a fantastic live performance event and showcased their new material in a thought provoking and exciting poetry slam which took place during The Spark Festival 2017.
As a result of the project 121 pupils achieved Arts Award Discover.
