Powerful Words - Poetry Project
Our aim is to boost emotional wellbeing, improve literacy skills, inspire and build confidence and self-esteem of the participating children aged 8 -9 living in Leicester City.
This February, acclaimed poet and storyteller John Berkavitch will begin an eleven week residency in four Leicester schools working with children aged 8 - 9 to deliver the poetry project Powerful Words.
During the residency year four classes from each of the participating schools will be inspired to write their own material and create their own newsletter of poems. The aspiring young writers will also contribute to a live performance event and showcase their new material in a thought provoking and exciting poetry slam during The Spark Festival 2017.
The project will also provide an opportunity for children to achieve an Arts Award Discover.
