The Spark and Mellor Community Primary - Our Case Study
Five case study projects were commissioned to address an overarching enquiry question to stimulate innovation in primary, secondary and special education: Can we use Leicester and what happens within it to enhance our children and young people's learning?
The Spark worked with Mellor Community Primary School, project producer Nettie Scriven and artist Usha Mahenthiralingam to deliver our case study at the start of 2015. Year 3 children worked with visual artist, Usha Mahenthiralingam, and their teachers to develop their conceptual understanding of 'mapping' and build their mapping skills by using Belgrave Road as a local area for exploration. This was a cross curriculum project, with a focus on geography and local learning with the intention to use visual art and movement as creative mediums for exploration.
