Creative curiosity

A 'clinical' space was transformed into something extraordinary, all thanks to young people's ignited imaginations…

Young disabled people from Ash Field Academy creatively joined forces with professional disabled and non-disabled artists to create an inclusive multi-sensory installation at their school as part of this year's Spark Festival.

Taking the festival theme of finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, the installation incorporated the young people's first-hand knowledge, experiences and viewpoints of the school environment to embed creative access at its heart.

On Friday 11 February each child in the school visited the installation. Parents, carers and other family members were invited into the school to share this exceptionally authentic experience.

Takeover Day

Ash Field Academy and Mellor Community Primary School also joined forces with artist Siân Watson to takeover Curve on Saturday 12 February as part of the festival.

More information on the Takeover Day can be found here.

Looking to the future

As a legacy The Spark will continue to work with young people at Ash Field Academy to set up a 'Creativity Council' giving children a voice in the arts in their school.
