What Makes Me, Me?

A poetry residency exploring identity.

Children, aged 8 - 9, from two schools in Leicester are currently creating their own pieces of writing in response to the question – what makes me, me?

They will showcase their new creative material at an exciting poetry jam during February at The Spark Festival 2022.

To help them in their journey to the performance acclaimed Poet John Berkavitch began a 10-week programme of interactive poetry workshops in October 2021.

The workshops are igniting imaginations and encouraging children to gain new skills and confidence. They are finding ways to express their emotions and have their voice heard through the collaboration with Owen.

Throughout this project the children have also been challenged to develop poetry clubs within their schools, identifying poetry champions to continue the legacy and love for creative writing.

The schools taking part:

  • Rushey Mead Primary School
  • Queensmead Primary Academy
