Page to Stage

In partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council this project provided high quality, fun, imaginative and accessible live theatre in libraries for children aged 5 – 9 and their families.

It created opportunities for library audiences across the East Midlands to engage with live theatre through two touring programmes and a series of workshops over a two year period.

This included:

  • an exciting, ambitious new piece of family theatre based on a contemporary book for children aged 5 - 9 years old, designed for a library setting to tour 16 libraries.
  • a programme of existing shows involving a range of theatre companies over four seasons at five libraries.
  • an immersive programme of family theatre-making workshops in 12 libraries featuring a range of practitioners, providing an accessible introduction to theatre through participation.

This extensive strategic programme saw some 41 performances and 48 workshops reaching around 5000 people and enabled Nottinghamshire Libraries to develop and grow their audience.

This project gave the opportunity to embed children's literature into the programming which we hope will inspire and encourage children to widen their reading horizons. It also provided the opportunity to commission a new piece to fill a gap in the market for exceptionally high quality children's plays suitable for library venues.
