Animus music residency
In 2018, The Spark invited children from three Leicester primary schools and to take place in choral residency, working with inspirational Brazilian composer and percussionist Adriano Adewale on the theme of “animals”.
The residency started with workshops taking place in schools. The resulting performance was part of the Spark Festival 2018.

Animus: The Animal Within
The Amimus performance was a musical adventure to the animal kingdom using song, percussion, and global music. Performing alongside ninety children from Granby Primary School, Queensmead Academy and Glenmere Primary School were composer Adriano Adewale (Percussion), Emilia Mårtensson (vocals), Luca Boscagin (guitar), Davide Mantovani (Bassist) and Carolina Paulino (choreographer).
Through discussions, pupils were encouraged to talk about the animals, and write lyrics for a song which will be based on a particular animal or group of animals. These songs were then arranged with the professional musicians as well as with the choreographer who worked with the students to create accompanying movement.
