Takeover: De Montfort University
The Spark Arts for Children and De Montford University
Part of The Spark Festival 2024, this free creative event was planned and delivered by Leicester children for families from across the city.

Children from Mayflower Primary and Mellor Community Primary have worked with artist Sam Redway to ‘takeover’ De Montfort University – and they planned a brilliant day! They also took on key roles on the day itself – from hosting to assisting with activities.
Free activities during the day
Drop-in activities during the day included making a sculpture from recycled materials, attending a live comedy gameshow, and taking part in the ‘Gallery of Greatness’ – making a medal, trophy, or award to celebrate your creative skills.
Comedy show for children
We were also joined by Jeddybear & Gary with ‘Chemistry of Chaos’. Nominated for ‘Best Kids Show’ at the Leicester Comedy Festival, Hull’s comedy duo are unleashed a scientific spectacle in this interactive show.
