Artist profile

Anusha Subramanyam

Anusha Subramanyam is apassionate dance theatre and performance artist with a rich background in Bharatanatyam, folk styles, and somatic practices. Her current practice is rooted in participatory and inclusive approaches, focusing on the intersection of South Asian dance forms with contemporary dance. I aim to take South Asian dance outside traditional spaces, reaching diverse audiences and creating work that fosters connection and belonging.

Anusha loves working with early years children, using movement to give them agency and a voice. Her practice weaves together gesture, narrative, and music to craft cross-cultural experiences that are both inclusive and transformative. With over 40 years of experience working in schools, nurseries, and grassroots communities, she is committed to building a sustainable, scalable practice that champions diversity and creativity for all.

I'm thrilled to be part of the Vital Spark programme
because it offers a unique opportunity to grow my
artistic practice in a supportive and inclusive
environment. This programme will allow me to
deepen my work with early years and children,
focusing on sensory dramaturgy and co-creation.
I’m excited to collaborate with other artists and
organisations that share a commitment to diversity.
