The Sparks Arts for Children appoints Trina Haldar as Director

The Sparks Arts for Children announces the permanent appointment of Trina Haldar as Director, effective immediately.

Trina has led the organisation as Interim Director and now steps into the role permanently at a vibrant and exciting moment for The Spark.

Trina will continue to guide the organisation’s vision, championing ambitious, joyful and inclusive cultural experiences created for and with children and young people.

Commenting on her appointment, Trina Haldar said:

“I’m excited to be appointed Director of The Spark Arts for Children. For over 20 years, The Spark has been culturally raising Leicester’s children and it’s a real privilege to lead an established organisation that places children at the heart of everything we do.

“I’m proud to lead such a talented team whose work is year round supporting artists, delivering creative programmes in early years and schools and placing children at the heart of cultural life in Leicester.

“As we head into The Spark Festival in just two weeks, the energy across the organisation is incredible and I can’t wait to welcome children, families and artists from across the city to play, explore and celebrate creativity with us.”

Mike Candler, Chair of Trustees, added:

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I’m pleased to confirm Trina Haldar’s appointment as Director. Trina has demonstrated strong leadership, vision and dedication to the organisation. We look forward to the next chapter under her direction.”

The Spark Festival 2026 takes place from 16–24 May, filling Leicester’s libraries, schools and community venues with brilliant performances, hands‑on adventures and plenty of free or pocket‑money activities.

This year, children are truly front and centre shaping the programme and leading the festival’s spirit.
