More about the artist
In her capacity as a freelance choreographer and movement director, she has collaborated with various companies, organisations, and artists, including Hackney Showroom, Little Red Kettle, Complicite, Bryony Kimmings, Royal Opera House, Perth Concert Hall, and The Place.
Here’s what Sarah had to say about being a Vital Spark Ideas Fund artist “I am so chuffed to be part of Vital Spark. What an amazing opportunity to have a project be supported at this very early stage. It will give the show’s life the best possible beginning with the support from the brilliant team at The Spark. On a more personal note, when creating work that may be challenging for both myself and the audience’s, I couldn’t be in better company to make sure that care is at the heart of the process.”
Currently, she is actively engaged in collaborations with Dan Daw Creative Projects and Xnthony Ltd.
What’s the idea
“The Idea I want to explore with the Ideas Fund is a dance theatre show called Be Alive (very much a working title). It’s a show for children who have grown up with a parent/guardian who has struggled with mental health. Told bravely with words and movement, this is a story about a young person who disappears into a disco in their minds when things get rough. How do they untangle themselves and work out how to exist in the real world without the guilt and fear of losing the most important person in their lives.“

The Vital Spark behind everything we do
We believe that all children should be able to experience arts and culture, and that they should be able to see themselves represented in these experiences. This is not yet the case for every child and we’re committed to changing that.
Our response is Vital Spark, and it's at the heart of everything we do. Vital Spark is about challenging and changing the lack of diversity in children’s arts and culture; it’s about diverse-led artistic decision making; it’s about not being afraid to stand up for what’s right.
We do this by supporting artists who are currently underrepresented in children’s arts and culture. We also work with partner organisations to create world-class opportunities for these artists and share best practice.
