What to expect

Children and families have the freedom to engage with the performers and space as they choose. The performance of The Sticky Dance is wordless, with occasional instructions or greetings from the company. To assist families in preparing for the experience, a visual story will be provided.

While the performance does not feature bright or flashing lights, it does include a soundscape played through embedded speakers in the set. Additionally, certain set structures incorporate technology that translates music into vibration. Seating options such as floor cushions and chairs are available.

The interactive nature of the performance installation allows participation in any comfortable manner, whether through watching, listening, touching, dancing, or moving about. Participants are encouraged to find their own way of engaging, with performers available to join or accompany them.

Co-commissioned by The Southbank Centre and The Place, and South East Dance with support by Stanley Arts. Supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

More about the show

The Sticky Dance is open for 2 hours for each performance. Please book one of the entrance slots available every 15 minutes. We recommend you spend approximately 45 minutes in the space, although you can choose to stay for longer or less. The first 2 booking slots at each performance have less audience members in the space, for children who might prefer this.

Latecomers and re-entry is permitted, however if the space is already full, we may ask you to wait.

The Sticky Dance is co-created by Rosie Heafford & Takeshi Matsumoto, with designs by Alison Brown (Scottish Dance Theatre, Barrowland Ballet), and a soundscape by Dinah Mullen (Rachel Mars Forge, Kate Cross/Tim Bell Squirrel).Co-commissioned by The Southbank Centre and The Place, and South East Dance with support by Stanley Arts.
